Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts at fame in the mainstream were unsuccessful, with two separate record labels signing and then dropping her before she had any new material released. Capitol Records, however, launched Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007 which was received with only modest approval for the album's title track. The song I Kissed a Girl was a more assertive ode sexism accompanied by a hard edged electro-pop rhythm. I Kissed a Girl was an immediate hit, however the song quickly caused controversy. Critics argued that it encouraged sexual relationships between gay and straight men, while others said the scenario which was depicted on the album was more appealing to fantasies of males. I Kissed a Girl's combination of excitement, a polished tune and an enthralling chorus made the song become a top 10 hit across multiple countries. This led to an album called One of the Boys (2007) which was a huge success. Hot N Cold's sharp, bouncy second single was also extremely popular. The album that Perry created in large portion sold over three million copies.
